Stakeholder Workshop: What Do People Expect from Protection?

How do people feel about policies intended to protect them? What do they expect from political institutions in times of insecurity? And how well do political communication and policy responses reflect these emotional needs and expectations?

After three years of research, we are inviting stakeholders from public institutions, policymaking and civil society to join us for an online workshop on 13 November 2026. Together, we will discuss key findings from PROTEMO and reflect on what they mean for policy and practice.

From research to policy and practice

Our research across Europe has explored how people understand and experience protection, what they expect from institutions, and how protection is communicated.

At the workshop, we will share these findings and discuss how institutions can better recognise emotional needs and expectations when designing and communicating protective policies.

Bringing research and practice together

The workshop will bring researchers and stakeholders together to discuss how our findings can support more responsive policies, public services and communication. Participants’ perspectives will help us refine PROTEMO’s final takeaways and recommendations and will directly inform our stakeholder booklet, translating key findings into an accessible resource for policymakers, practitioners and civil society.

Join us

The workshop takes place online on Friday, 13 November 2026, from 13:00 to 15:00 CET. Participation is free of charge.

We look forward to discussing our findings with you and hearing your perspectives on how institutions can better respond to people’s needs and expectations around protection.
